Students preparing for Advanced Placement exams in 2027 have an important scheduling change to keep in mind. The AP exams will continue to take place in May, but the College Board is changing how exam start times are organised in different parts of the world. The usual morning and afternoon labels will also be replaced by Session 1 and Session 2.
For students in India, the UAE, the UK and the US, knowing the exact schedule and local start time is important for planning revision, school attendance and exam-day logistics.
AP Exam Dates 2027: Full Schedule
The main 2027 AP exams will be conducted over two weeks, from May 3 to May 7 and May 10 to May 14, 2027. Late testing will take place from May 17 to May 21 for eligible students who cannot take an exam during the regular testing window or have scheduling conflicts.

What Is Changing in AP Exam Timings in 2027?
One of the biggest changes for 2027 is the introduction of location-based exam start times. College Board is making this change to reduce the risk of secure exam content being shared across time zones.
Instead of simply referring to morning and afternoon exams, the schedule now uses Session 1 and Session 2. The actual start time depends on the UTC offset used by the student's location in May 2027.
For most schools in the lower 48 US states, Hawaii and Washington, DC, the familiar 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. local start times remain unchanged. Some other locations will have different times.
AP Exam Schedule India 2027: What Time Will Exams Start?
Students in India need to pay particular attention to the new timings.
India uses a UTC+5:30 offset, and College Board's 2027 table lists:
- Session 1: 6:30 a.m. local time
- Session 2: 10:30 a.m. local time
These are the official start times listed for the UTC+5:30 offset. An exam can begin up to one hour after the officially listed start time, so students should follow the reporting instructions given by their AP coordinator rather than assuming the exam will begin at exactly the listed time.
This makes advance planning especially important for students taking an early Session 1 exam in India. Travel time, breakfast, sleep and reporting arrangements should all be considered before exam week.
AP Exam Dubai Timing 2027
Students taking AP exams in Dubai and elsewhere in the UAE fall under the UTC+4 May 2027 offset.
College Board lists:
- Session 1: 11:00 a.m.
- Session 2: 3:00 p.m.
The exact reporting instructions will come from the school or AP coordinator administering the exam.
For students preparing in Dubai, the later Session 2 start can affect how revision and meals are planned on exam days. It is worth checking the confirmed reporting time with the school before making exam-day arrangements.
What About Students in the UK and US?
In the UK, May falls under British Summer Time, which uses a UTC+1 offset. College Board's table lists 8:00 a.m. for Session 1 and 12:00 p.m. for Session 2 at UTC+1.
For most students in the lower 48 US states, the standard timings remain 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. local time, although the applicable US time zone determines the exact schedule. Alaska has different times, with Session 1 at 7:00 a.m. and Session 2 at 11:00 a.m.
AP Exam Registration Deadline 2027
There is no single worldwide student registration deadline set by College Board. Students generally register through their school and AP coordinator, and school-level deadlines can vary.
For the 2026–27 administration, College Board lists October 2, 2026 as the preferred ordering deadline and November 13, 2026 as the final ordering deadline for schools. Students should therefore check their school's internal deadline well before November rather than waiting for the College Board deadline.
Students whose school does not administer AP exams need to arrange testing with another authorised school or test centre. College Board recommends beginning this search early because individual schools can have their own policies and deadlines.
Other 2027 AP Changes Students Should Know
The timing change is not the only update. From 2027, AP Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish Language and Culture, along with AP Spanish Literature and Culture, will move to fully digital exams through Bluebook. This means students will complete the exam digitally, including the relevant audio and speaking components.
Students taking AP Art and Design, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Seminar or AP Research should also track their separate AP Digital Portfolio deadlines. For 2027, several of these submissions are due on April 30, while AP Art and Design's final portfolio deadline is May 7.
How Students Should Prepare for the 2027 AP Schedule
A good preparation plan should begin with the official exam date, not just a general target such as “May”. Once the date and session are known, students can map revision backwards and identify which subjects need earlier preparation.
