MYP Grade 10: The question will be an entirely unfamiliar scenario like a supplier’s price dropping by 5% for every 50 units bought or shipping costs doubling after midnight. No formula will be provided, and the student has to identify the mathematical tools to pull out to solve it.

MYP Grade 10: You are calculating how many shirts a student needs to print to break even. Your calculation may yield the same answer as above (i.e. x=4.5), but if you just write this down, you lose significant marks. You have to put this in context: “Because half a shirt cannot be sold, we must round up to the nearest whole integer. Therefore, the minimum number of shirts is 5.”

So, as you can see, while a correct answer guarantees full marks in standard math, MYP requires you to have perfect communication and real-life application.
